Allen Carter -- A true family man

By Angie Mayes
Middle Tennessee Racing News

Allen Carter knows the importance of family when it comes to racing.

After all, he grew up with a mother and father who raced. His uncles, the legendary “Climer Boys” also raced. His son Blake, 16, first got behind the wheel of a car in 2000 and son Clint, 11, is now showing an interest in the sport.

“Family support is very important,” he said. “My dad (Buck) passed away two years ago and my mom (Shirley) got sick about a year and a half ago. She got better and comes to the races when she can. If not, she listens to them on the radio. She still calls every Sunday to talk about the races. It was really special (on June 8) because I didn’t know she was there and we won the race. Having a mother and father who support you is worth a pot of gold.”

That’s why he takes such an interest and shows such support in his sons’ racing careers.

By Angie Mayes
Middle Tennessee Racing News

Saturday May 21 was a cool night, but the racing was hot at Tennessee’s fastest high-banked quarter-mile track, River Speedway, in Carthage.

Smyrna, Tenn.’s Bennie Hamlett took his fourth win of the season by soundly defeating his competitors in a 50-lap shootout. Hamlett, who was the fast qualifier and started on the pole, jumped to the lead at the beginning of the race. Meanwhile Jamie Summers, of Franklin, Ky., quickly moved from last place up through the field, trying to compete for the front position. By lap 10, Hamlett had a whole turn car length over Anthony Warner of Lafayette, Tenn. Warner had a 20 car-length lead over Mandy Moore, of Lebanon, Tenn.
